The idea of being an influencer is alluring to many people. Who wouldn’t want to barely work, taking selfies everyday, all while chilling by the beach? However, this reality couldn’t be further from the truth.

In this episode of Unchained, fitness influencer Olav Johnsrud from Norway discusses how he has become a professional content creator.

Olav is a fitness influencer who recently surpassed 20,000 followers since his social media journey began in 2015. He started his own business “Natural Limits” and wants to inspire people to be the best versions of themselves. Oh. And he is handsome, just a small bonus.

Building your audience.

Through consistency and high quality content, Olav saw his audience rise from a few thousand followers to over 20,000 followers in the space of a few years. His 3 tips for up and coming content creators?

  • Test different content and find a niche you are good at
  • Collaborate with content creators in your industry
  • Consistency, Consistency, Consistency

Olav also stresses the importance of understanding the constantly changing algorithm of Instagram and Tik Tok. Currently reels are highly promoted by Instagram. If you’d like to know more about what works on Instagram now, Olav suggests YouTube videos!

Turn your audience into a business.

When starting to gain traction, Olav recalls his dream was to “just get a sponsor”. Down the road he realized that it is not hard to get a sponsor, but rather as a creator you have to make sure the sponsor is aligned with you as your own brand

Olav studied to be a personal trainer and had been doing fitness for 10 years prior to social media. Launching his own coaching business therefore came naturally. He now earns 2,500 Euros a month with the potential to earn 300,000 Euros a year.

In many areas that’s more than a doctor. Earning more than a doctor through social media is not a new concept, yet still a baffling one. “It’s crazy” says Olav as he thinks about the potential earnings of his coaching business, ran with social media. Olav believes that “If you are able to make good content, you can monetize anything.”

Overcoming his chronic disease

Olav opens up about living with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), which leaves him tired after experiencing stress for a period of time. Social media focuses on the positive things in life, but Olav is a great example of how being vulnerable and sharing real life struggles can impact his followers in a positive way.
